Huck is an offline trail map. It is built so that your data stays on your phone.

What Huck collects

Nothing leaves your device. Huck has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no server that receives personal data.

• Location — used to show your position on the map, snap you to the trail you are on, and record tracks you explicitly start. Location data is stored only on your device. If you enable background recording, location continues to be recorded while the screen is off, still only to your device.
• Tracks, waypoints, favourites, routes — stored only on your device. They leave it only when you share them, for example by sharing a GPX file or a trail link through the iOS share sheet.

Network use

Huck's maps work entirely offline. The app connects to the internet only for the following, and none of it identifies you:

• Downloading a map region. An anonymous file fetch from our content delivery network. No identifiers or personal data are sent. Our CDN provider records standard web server logs, including IP address, as any web server does.
• Checking for updated map data. When you open the Downloads screen, Huck asks the same content delivery network whether the regions you already have were rebuilt. It sends the region names and nothing else.
• Checking your subscription. On each launch Huck asks Apple's App Store whether a Huck+ subscription is active. This goes to Apple, not to us — see Purchases below.
• Downloading a weather forecast (a Huck+ feature). When you ask for the forecast at a trail, Huck requests it from the US National Weather Service at weather.gov for that trail's coordinates. That request necessarily contains the coordinates you asked about. It does not contain your identity, your position, or anything else about you, and Huck never sends your location automatically.

Purchases

Huck+ is an auto-renewing subscription sold by Apple. Payment, renewal and cancellation are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. Huck asks Apple's App Store on each launch whether your subscription is active, and stores only a yes-or-no answer on the device.

Children

Huck is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Data deletion

Delete a track, waypoint, route or favourite in the app and it is gone — there is no copy anywhere else. Deleting the app deletes everything.

Who receives anything

Huck sells nothing to anyone and has no advertising or analytics partners. Exactly three parties receive anything at all, none of it identifying you:

• Our content delivery network — a request for a map file, and your IP address, which every web server sees for every request. No account, no identifier, no location.
• The US National Weather Service — the coordinates of the trail whose forecast you asked for, and only when you ask.
• Apple — your subscription status, as part of running the App Store purchase you made with them.

Trail and road data displayed in the app comes from public sources — the US Forest Service, Idaho Parks & Recreation, the Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Department of Lands — and is bundled into the app's map files. Nothing is sent to them either.

This website

gohuck.app keeps aggregate statistics computed from our content delivery network's standard server logs — the same requests every web server sees, as described above. Daily totals of which pages were viewed, how many times, from which countries. There are no cookies, no JavaScript trackers, and no third-party analytics service; the app itself contains no analytics of any kind.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
